Alrighty, here we are. The 'Purposes' revamp. Before we start the actual RPG, I'm going to post a recap of what's happened so far.
This 'Purposes' thread is going to pick up right where the other thread left off (right after the Blue Lantern ring break), but there are going to be a few differences. Basically, most of the origin of the team has been changed. But instead of going through all that again in real time, it's so much easier to just recap it like this. So here it is:
Team Recap and Summary:
There's been an increase in the number of metahuman realted crimes in Metlantis City. And due to the overwhelming success of other metahuman crime fighting groups such as the Teen Titans in Jump City, Metlantis City has decided to do the same.
The team's name is Litigation and they've been formed to deal with the rising crime rate in Metlantis City. Although their main jurisdiction is that of metahumans, they are authorised to handle any they may come across in the city.
The members of Litigation include:
- Dark Mind, the residential psychokinetic. He get's chronic headaches due to the source of his powers but he has yet to explain the specifics of it to his teammates. But one this is certain, they've been steadily getting worse. One of the only things that help relieve him of his headaches is music, because of the sound waves emitted by it act as a buffer between his brain and incoming psionic waves from the outside world.
So far, his enteraction with the city hasn't had much of an impact on him. Aside from the headaches he's been pretty much unaffected and is just doing his job. But all that may change soon with the arrival of the newest team member.
He mostly hangs out with Force, due to their association with each other before the creation of the team. In other words, they're friends.
- Zelda, the lightning hot-head from the next city over. She's basically kept to herself since reluctantly joining the team. Despite the fact that he was the main reason she joined, she has constant arguements with one of her teammates code-named Force.
She hasn't done much aside form crime fighting since joining the team. To say that she hasn't been very social is an understatement. Being the only girl on the team has undoubtedly caused her to automatically regard her teammates as nothing more than that, teammates. Also, the fact that it was either crime fighting, or juvenile hall doesn't help matters much either. But hopefully the newest member of the team may help change that as well.
- Force, the tackless ball of energy. He joined the team along with Dark Mind to help fight crime in Metlantis City. He says what everyone else is thinking, mostly because he knows that if he doesn't say it no one else will. This is one of the things that constantly gets him into arguements with Zelda. He'll say what no one else will say, and it's usually the truth. And even more usually something that Zelda doesn't want to hear, especially if it's pertaining to her.
He's been mostly a wall flower in the latest events, fighting along with the team but not doing anything that would have affected anything inparticular.
He mostly hangs out with Dark Mind, due to their association with each other before the creation of the team. In other words, they're friends.
- Nightmare, the mysterious loner who's purpose seems to only be to fight crime. He keeps to himself even more than Zelda (and believe me to be able to say that honestly is an accomplishment). The only thing that is known about him for sure is that he's serious about fighting injustice, but he also gives off the vibe that he's not fighting crime because he's interested in being a hero. Maybe it's just his vibe, or maybe his comment to Blue Lantern, "All you need to know is that I want to help mankind. Details to why do not concern you." may have been a tip off as well.
Whatever the reason, Nightmare has proven himself to be true to his word. Helping when he is needed and fighting as "part" of the team, although not always with the team. It is becoming a regular occurrence for Nightmare to not only fight crime by himself, but also without notifying the rest of the team. Some of his teammates aren't very happy about this, while others appear not to care. Either way, Nightmare shows no signs of changing his methods.
On a more secretive note, ever since a few weeks before joining the team, Nightmare has been having encounters with a strange being. Not much is known about the being, or Nightmare's connection to him, but it is apparent that Nightmare doesn't know much about the being himself. Despite the rising in the frequency of the encounters, Nightmare has decided to keep them a secret from the team. Whether or not this is a good idea will only be revealed with time.
- Blue Lantern, the blue mandue himself. He joined the team ready to fight crime, but recent events have taken him down a notch. Now he's more deterimined than ever to fight for justice.
His power ring broke during a battle with an enemy that utalized ultraviolet energy. Whether it was the fact that the villian used powers on a different light wave then the blue energy, or if it was something more...forthcoming have yet to be discovered. All we do know is the the Blue Lantern may be weaker in power, but he is no where near less determined.
Gadjets:[/u] ==========
Team Gadjets:[/u]
The Blue Jay - The Litigation team jet named by the Blue Lantern himself. The jet is capable of inter-continental flight, and auto-piloting. It has an attack mode but due to the fact that most conflicts involving Litigation take place in heavily populated areas, it's not used much. Instead, the jet itself is mainly used for transportation.
Communicators - The "high-tech pez despensers" as Force put it. Basically they're small, individual com-links given to each member of Litigation. They're linked to each other, and the Blue Jay.
---------------
Personal Gadjets:[/u]
- Blue Lantern: BL's Motorcycle Thingy
- Zelda: Zelda's soon-to-be, metal plated shoes so she can fly without the assistance of a metal trash can lid.
Main Base:[/u]
The Litigation Main Base is on the outskirts of Metlantis City, protruding from the side of a mountain range that acts as a barrier for that side of the city. With a river flowing along side the mountain range, near the main base.
The Main Base is protected by various forms of securty equipment and technology. The main base's computer, code named Noctrum, is a highly advanced form of artificial intelligence. It is also directly linked to the Litigation communicators and the Blue Jay.
If there's anything that anyone would like to add and/or change feel free to either do it or let me know and I'll do it. If not, then we're ready to restart 'Purposes' and bring some life back to the RPG world.

================================================== Central Metlantis City: Uptown, 4:13 PM, Wednesday, July 14th, 2005 A.D. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Blue Jay cirlced over head as Litigation, save Nightmare, stood at the foot of a giant, ice covered building.
"Whoa... " Force stared in awe at the giant structure. 'I hope this bank has ice insurance.'
"Close your mouth, you might catch a fly." Dark Mind grinned as he looked over at Force.
"So, what exactly are we up against?" Zelda asked, cutting the boys off before they could start arguing.
Blue Lantern glanced over a stack of papers in his hand. "These read outs from the Blue Jay's onboard computer say that somehow the main water lines below this building erupted in giant waves of ice that covered everything for two square blocks."
"So what do you think it is? Some type of ice villian?" Force grinned as he began to pick up handfuls of snow.
"I don't know, but whatever it is I suggest we be careful. Ice is very dangerous stuff, it can cut like glass if it's sharp enough."
Force leaned over to Dark Mind, "Correct me if I'm wrong." He whispered, "But can't anything cut like glass if it's sharp enough. I mean, isn't that what 'sharp' means? Able-to-cut."
Dark Mind stifled a laugh as Zelda rolled her eyes. "So, are we going to wait for Nightmare or just go ahead?"
"I guess we'll just go ahead. It's not like a ten foot tall monster's going to help keep anything around here stable anyway." Blue Lantern began to make his way toward the giant building.
"Well, we know how we do things." Zelda began.
"How we do things?" Force asked with a grin. "Oh you mean, how we go into a mission, B.L. gives us the 411 on the situation, we spend five minutes arguing about how to go about it, and then we end up-"
"Shut up Force." Zelda interjected. "That was once-"
"Twice." Dark Mind corrected
"Whatever, and it wasn't even a big mission. It was a search and recover mission involving some goverments files that had been misplaced."
Force countered Zelda's comment and as their arguement carried on, Dark Mind and Blue Lantern looked at each other, shurgged, and silently decided to let them continue on while they looked for a way in.

"Alright, listen up." Bl said with his usual authority. "Scans show that the ice doesn't fill the inside of the building, at least, not yet."
"Right, so how do we do it when it's this fragile?" Asked Force.
Bl replied, "Force, focus energy into the hinges only. Damn, please be careful and dissolve only the hinges, and nothing else in the building, and then I'll just pull it out. Easy as that."
"Works for me."
"Me too."
The hinges glowed just a little bit through the ice, and then disappeared soon after. BL took a firm grip on the doorknob and slowly, ever so carefully nudged the door outwards little by little until it sprang free and he knocked it aside.
Stepping inside, he proclaimed, "See? Like tha--"
He was interrupted by the building giving a shudder and sending small shards of ice down from the ceiling.
"Easy as that, you said." Force quipped. "Didn't think this would happen, did ya?"
"Force, you can lead us in I think." BL replied.

Shards of ice cracked free from the ceiling and began their decent too the floor. The few remaining people in the building instinctivly brought up their arms to ward off the falling shards even though most were almost as big as them.
But before the falling debre' hit, the light seemed to flee from the room. Dark energies swirled into the center of the room, quickly forming intricate pathways of swirling symbols never seen by man.
Out of the shadows the room was now cast in a hulking figure 10 feet tall trudged threw the shocked people. Gently but firmly moving them out of his way.
Taking vigil in the center of the room under the dark construck. It raised its hands and braced itself just as the shards impacted.
Hitting the construct, the dibre' shattard and piled up. The dark runes flickered but held as the ice piled upon it. Strained the one holding it up roared in fury heaving harder. While frightening the people to a door that was now opened by members of the Litigation. The room now clear, the runes died sending the suspended debre' crashing around the figure.
Moments of silence followed. With it the light flowed back into the room.
"Team dig him out!"
The larg pile shuddered, and fell apart as the demon Nightmare broke away from his confines.
The ten foot tall demon droped to the floor once he broke free, his mind wandered.
"Weak... So weak... " Desperatly he grasped hold of his conscousness and forced him self up. Changing himself back to his human guise to concerve the energy he no longer possesed.
"So... what took you."

Nightmare slowly rose to his feet and glared at Force. "I had buisness to take care of."
Force looked at Nightmare with a grin, "Ah, I understand. It must be hard finding a taylor that can make clothes for a ten foot monster." This comment recieved another glare from Nightmare and a slap in the back of the head from Zelda.
The team, now reformed, began carefully venture deeper into the building.
Nightmare stopped when he felt someone staring at him, he turned to see Dark Mind look away and begin rubbing his temples.
"Is there a problem?" Nightmare asked, he was refering to Dark Mind's sudden attention to the back of his head. But to everyone else it appeared like he was asking about Dark Mind's newest headache.
"No, I'm fine. All those people just gave me a slight headache, that's all. It'll go away soon, they always do." Dark Mind adjusted his glasses and caught up with the rest of the team.
"So, what's the game plan?" Nightmare turned to Blue Lantern who was looking at more readouts.
"According to this blue print, right through this door is a giant fountain and two spiral staircases leading to the next floors. We'll take the stairs to the..." Blue Lantern walked through the door he'd previously mentioned and forze in his tracks.
"Correction." Force said with a smirk. "There was a giant fountain and two spiral staircases. Now there's a giant pillar of ice and two fozen slides decending from the next floors."
Everyone stood still for a moment before Dark Mind chimed in, "Well, any ideas?" Force opened his mouth to speak but was cut off by Dark Mind. "That don't involve excessive use of kinetic energy that could cause the whole place to come down on us." Force closed his mouth.
"I'm on it." Zelda said as her eyes began to glow softly. Across the room, two metal benches and a metal desk top became enveloped in the same glow and floated over to the team. "Step on, it'll be fine."
Blue Lantern slowly stepped on, followed by Nightmare and Dark Mind. Force raised an eyebrow , "Why do I have a feeling that I'm going to 'accidentally' have too much extra static electricity in my body and that'll 'accidentally' cause me to get shocked?"
"Just shut up and get on."
"Fine." Force warily stepped onto the desk top and was immediately shocked. "Ow! See, I knew it!"
"Wasn't me."

Zleda carried everyone upward, thourgh the center of the room. Stopping every floor and hovering, to allow Damn to see if he could sense any more civilians, but as the continued their way upward, it became apparent that everyone must have made it out before they had a chance to become trapped.
The search then turned to the cause of the problem.
"So what exactly caused all of this?" Nightmare stopped at a window that was frozen over.
"No one's sure." Blue Lantern responded. "All we know is that there was a sudden drop in tempature of the immediate area, followed by everything being covered in ice."
"And due to the abnormal nature of all of that, it was pretty much a given that the chances of it being caused by a Meta are quite high." Dark Mind added.
"So of course they send us in, got it." Nightmare concluded. "Well, it looks like the civilians have all cleared out. Any suggestions on our next course of action?"
"Well, according to the report, the ice started at the very top of the building and made it's way down. So it would be my guess that whatever caused it is at the top floor." Blue Lantern concluded.
Nightmare paused for a moment. "Am I the only one who feels like going to the very tip top floor of a giant frozen building isn't the best idea?"
Blue Lantern was about to respond but Dark Mind interjected, "Hold on a sec, I can sense...something."
"What do you mean by "something"?"
"Just give me a second..." Dark Mind lowered his head and stood silent for a few moments. "That way," He pointed toward a large hallway. "Someone's that way."
"How can you tell?"
"I just can. I don't know how, but I can."

Dark Mind led the rest of the team down a large hallway, but stopped when the hall broke off in two oppsotie directions.
"Ok, what I'm sensing is that way." Dark Mind pointed down the left branch, then slowly pointed down the right. "....or that way..."
"Um, dude. You do realize you're pointing in two completely opposite directions, right?"
"Yes, I realize that, and there's a reason for it."
"Care to share?"
"What I'm sensing is coming from directly in front of us. But due to the fact that there's a wall there, we'll have to go around."
"I see, well then. I'm going this way." Force proceeded to take a few steps toward the left hallway.
"Any particular reason why?" Blue Lantern asked.
"No, but this way's as good as any. Especially since the hallways loop around."
"What? How do you know that? I'm the one with the blue prints."
"Well yeah, but...heh." Force stopped for a moment.
"What?"
"Nothing, I just realized that the Blue Lantern has the blue prints for this building..."
Everyone was silent for a few moments before snickering was heard coming from the back of the group. They turned to see Dark Mind laughing to himself.
"What? There's no way you're telling me that isn't ironic or funny. Because it so is."
"Whatever." Zelda responded. "Look, why don't we just split up? Half go one way, half go the other."
"Works for me." Nightmare agreed
"Alright. Dark Mind, you and Zelda go that way with Force." Blue Lantern pointed toward the left halllway. "And Nightmare and I will take this way." He pointed toward the right.
Before anyone could protest, namely Zelda. Blue Lantern was off down the hall, followed shortly by Nightmare.

Creek Snap Snap Snap
Nightmare quickly removed his foot from a were he was about to step.
"Looks like there are some weak spots in the floor." he muttered.
"We better watch our steps then." Blue Lantern remarked, "This place is an accident waiting to happen."
The building shook for a moment the quieted. "Your jinxing us."
Striding around they continued down into the depths of the building. The ice didn't let much light inside. Most of any surface was covered in a thick layer of blue ice, the air turning there breaths into vapor clouds.
"So, were where you." Blue Lantern said suddenly. "You do disappear from time to time but you are never gone when there is trouble."
Nightmare glanced at him sideways. "Like i said, I had business to take care of." he said coolly.
A slight tremor shook the building again.
"And you really think I or the team believe that?"
"Not in the least. However wherever I may be at any time, I do not need to be chaperoned."
"People could have died Nightmare."
'Watch it Blue." Came the growled response. Blue Lanturn turned to face him fully. "No i think it's time you-
"I said watch it!" Nightmare grabbed his collar just in time to stop him from falling down a hole probably caused by an earlier tremor.
Blue Lantern stared in shock for a moment before realization dawned on him.
"Man, this would be so much easier if I still had my ring." Came his mumbled response.

"Yeah, but where would be the fun?" Nightmare asked.
Bl gave a sigh, "I just feel so useless now. The door, all those people, the hole in the floor, I'm becomeing a liability to the team and I can't do anything about it."
"Hey, ring or not, you're still the Blue Lantern, a member of this team." Nightmare said taking the lead.
BL muttered quietly, "A few more close calls like those and who knows..."
The two continued to walk in silence for a few more moments with nothing but the faint sound of dripping water to keep the silence bearable.
"So..." Nightmare began, "What exactly happened here?"
'If you'd been here to start with you would know that.' Blue Lantern thought to himself absent mindedly.
"Well?"
"Oh, uh..." Blue Lantern cleared his throat. "We're not exactly sure what caused this, but what we know for sure is that the whole place went from normal, to completely frozen over in under half a minute." Blue Lantern paused to make sure Nightmare was following.
"So, what is this then? Just basically a search and rescue?"
"Sort of, but not exactly. The Blue Jay's onboard scanners didn't pick up any trapped civilians, everyone appears to have gotten out safely. Except for those on the bottom floor, and that was because of the fountains."
"What?"
"The fountains, the first floor had fountains all over the place. You just probably couldn't tell because when everything froze over they burst into giant jagged pillars. Another secondary danger I might add, falling shards of ice."
As if almost on cue a piece of ice broke off from somewhere on the ceiling and began it's decent downward.
Blue Lantern leaped out of the way just in time as Nightmare slid in the opposite direction.
They both layed in silence for a moment before Nightmare chimed in, "What did I say about jinxing us?"
"Heh, sorry." Blue Lantern rose to his feet as did Nightmare.
"Well then, continue." Nightmare said as the continued their journey.
"Oh, right." Blue Lantern said as he follow after Nightmare. "That's basically it, we're lucky a good portion of the building was closed down for rennovations. Otherwise things could have been alot uglier."
"I don't believe in luck." was Nightmare's only response.

================================================== Meanwhile, on the left side... -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Oh this is just great." Zelda increased her pace to get in front of the two boys. "I'm wandering through a frozen building, paired with the two most immature people I know, trying to find something that you "sensed"." Zelda motioned slightly toward Dark Mind.
"Hey Zelda?" Dark Mind said sincerely.
"Yes?"
"I'd just like to take the time to thank you for not only stating the obvious but trying, pathetically I might add, to insult us in the process." Dark Mind spoke the last bit with a slightly harsher tone as Force part snickered, part snorted to himself.
"What did you say?"
Dark Mind sighed as a response.
"Hey Damn."
Dark Mind sighed at the use of his unofficial nickname. "What?"
"What did you "sense" anyway?" Force side stepped a growing wet spot on the floor.
"I don't know what it was, I don't even know how I sensed it. You know my powers are different than yours."
"Oh yeah, with the whole "I control mine directly and yours are controled by-proxy" thing."
"Yes, that thing."
"What's with that anyway? I still don't quite get the big difference between the way you control your powers." Zelda slowed her walking until she was closer to the two.
"It's simple, my powers act on instinct and subconscous thought. My subconscous is what "sensed" whatever it was I sensed. It's like it just randomly picked up on a psionic wave, and then just as randomly let it go." Dark Mind explained as they continued walking.
"Yeah, but don't worry too much about it. Damn's been working on it and sooner or later he's going to figure out how to control his powers completely, conscously, and hopefully without those aneurysms-"
"It's not aneurysms."
"Sorry, "headaches"."

========== Left Side... ==========
Their conversation was interrupted by massive tremor radiating through the building.
Everyone froze.
"Whoa..." Force said slowly, "Of the top five things that I didn't want to feel while walking through this place, next to "the unexplained urge to suddenly become a pyro", THAT was it. I think the building's--"

"--slowly becoming more and more unstable." Blue Lantern explained after recovering from the tremor. "We need to be extremely careful not to--"

"--do anything that may cause this structure to become any less stable." Zelda said slowly, "I think we should avoid any unnecessary use of our powers." she looked at Force. "That means--"

"--changing into your monster form anytime in the near future is definately a bad idea."
"Don't worry," Nightmare replied, "I wasn't planning on--"
---------------------------------------------- ========== Left Side... ==========
"--doing anyhting excessively stupid." Force said in his defense. "You know, despite popular belief, I'm not as stupid as I seem, and you--"

"--don't have to worry about me doing anything that would jepordize the stability of the structure of this building." Nightmare concluded. "I think we should just continue in the direction we were going, and--"

========== Right Side... ==========
The floor suddenly tilted at a 60 degree angle causing Nightmare and Blue Lantern to lose their footing in the already ice encased floor.
Both slammed to the floor unceremoniously, and scrambled to find purchase once again.
"Why can we seem to keep out of trouble long enough to do some good?" Nightmare complained. The ceiling behind him buckled and collapsed falling into the hallway.
"I'll just keep quiet." Nightmare grunted sourly.
"Forward it is then." Blue Lantern stated fumbling with the building blue prints once he finally righted himself.
"It looks like there is an exit in about one hundred yard." he glanced ahead then back at Nightmare. "It looks like it runs into the path that the others took.
They heard a loud creaking sound from above.
Quickly, or as quickly as the slippery floor would allow, they darted forward as another section of the roof fell landing were the once stood.
"Well what are we waiting for? I have already been under one pile of debre' today and do not plan on submitting myself to another for kicks."
They quickly moved around the hallway going around holes and fallen debre' twards the appointed exit.
"Well would you look at that." Blue laughed although humor was not present in his voice.
Indeed, the supposed 'Exit' was blocked off by a rather large mound of fallen ceiling tiles wood and ice.
Nightmare scratched his chin thoughtfully. "Well that's not good...any other way out?"
"Not unless it was never in these blue prints-"Blue Lantern scrutinized the plans carefully.
"We could-"
"Forcing our way threw might bring the rest of the building down. I probably lack the strength for even that much anyways...
The ceiling started to creak dangerously just above the two. "Well in any case we need to do something." Blue waited for a reply but got none.
"Eh, Nightmare?"
Nightmare was now crouching near the floor with a piece of metal he pulled out of god-knows-were and was scratching odd shapes into the floor.
"What are you doing?"
"Getting us out." He grunted obviously not paying attention, being absorbed in his work.
"..." "..." "I don't think digging is going to work..."
"I am not digging...Done."
"With what?!"
"Have you no imagination? This is a rune structure that will allow short distance teleportation."
"Eh..."
"Just stand in the middle..."
He complied and stood directly in the center facing Nightmare.
"O.K. now wha-"
The runes suddenly glowed red, and the air seemed to vibrate. The next thing he knew he landed on top of a very confused Force, knocking them both to the ground.
"Glad to see you too buddy." Force cracked as soon as he could peel his face from the cold ice.
Nightmare appeared a few seconds latter, landing painfully on a nearby chair.
""Hehe... Think's I messeded up on se landsing structure..." He slurred before passing out.

As Nightmare passed out, Blue Lantern slowly regained his form and stood up shakily. "...Okay.. So.. Who's ready to get outta here?" He said while he tried to sit Nightmare up.
"Me." Zelda said, walking towards him as his attempt in waking Nightmare up failed and he slid back down onto the floor. Once again, the building structure began to shake and crack beneath their feet. A moment later, another huge piece of the ceiling fell, landing directly in front of Force's feet.
He hurried towards Blue Lantern and Nightmare, sitting him up and putting his arm around his shoulders in another attempt to lift him. "I really think we should get out of here.."
"NO, we can't." Dark Mind protested.
The other three stared at him. "Why not?" They all asked in union. Zelda went over to the other side of Nightmare and aided Force in lifting him up.
"Because I think what I sensed is still in here."
Force groaned. "Man, it's probably dead by now, anyway."
"...No," Dark Mind slowly turned his head and closed his eyes. He continued, "..it can't be. I wouldn't still be sensing it." He opened his eyes abruptly. "No. Something's definitely still around here.. somewhere.."
Another huge sigh.
Blue Lantern looked around at the quickly deteriorating building. "Damn's right, we have to help whatever it is. We can't just leave it in here as the building falls apart. Even if it's not safe."
"Well, what're we gonna do with this one?" Zelda grunted, motioning towards the body they were carrying. She lifted him a bit more onto her own shoulders. Force complied and did the same. "If something happens and we have to get out of here, I'll never be able to make it with his body weight adding onto mine; He may not be a demon right now be he sure as hell ain't light."
A moment of silence. After; "Nightmare will be fine; He'll wake up sooner or later... We have to keep going." Force rolled his eyes and Damn nodded, and the four cautiously continued down the hallway, dragging an unconscious Nightmare along..

Hey, I felt like trying something new with the font colors. Let me know what you think.
-----------------------------------
Damn led the way as they continued down the frozen hallway. Every few moments Nightmare would partially regain consciousness and mutter something in coherent, aside from that everything was quite.
“Are we there yet?”
"...."
“What?”
“I said, Are we there yet?”
“What are you, three?”
“....three blind mice and a hickory stick...”
“No, I’m not three.”
“Well you sure act like it sometimes.”
“I am aware of this.”
“...Aware of wearing....”
“What did he just say?”
“I dunno, something about werewolves....Hey Blue Boy, whatcha doing walking in the back?”
“Someone has to...”
“...two, four, six, pick up sticks....”
“Aight man, but if you get tired of staring at Nightmare’s ass feel free to move up front.”
“Why, so you can stare at his?”
“No, so you can.”
“....Prince Albert in a can....”
“Nah, I’m fine back here....”
“I’m not even going to comment on how gay that sounded.”
“You just did.”
Their banter continued for a few more minutes until Damn stopped abruptly.
“We’re here.”
